The weather does really suck these days but the good thing is that it keeps me indoors, so I could be on the footage I brought home from the yesterday's show. What you can see is a couple of songs from Terror, Born From Pain and Trapped Under Ice I took out of their sets they had here in Warsaw at last Show No Mercy (local booking crew, they have been doing metal/hc/alternative show for a while) gig. Good show and all the bands I had a chance to see deliver quality shows while kids were 100% into them, so it couldn't really go wrong. It's good to see almost all of the Terror members jumping on the guest vocals during other band's sets and helping out BFP big time - their vocalist Rob had to drop off the tour due to his eye surgery and hopefully will be back soon. And do not miss the Adam Malik of Pain Runs Deep sweat cameo at the end of "Keep Your Mouth Shut" and probably the youngest Warsaw kid grabbing the mike during Trapped Under Ice set (and bouncers being way too uptight to let him finish as he should). You gotta love it.










Pogoda jest totalnie z dupy i jedyna dobra rzecz, ktora z tego wynika to fakt, ze od razu zabralem sie za stuff, ktory przynioslem wczorajszej nocy do domu. To co mozecie zobaczyc powyzej to kilka kawalkow Terror, Born From Pain i Trapped Under Ice wyjete z ich wystepow na wczorajszym Show No Mercy (jakby ktos nie wiedzial - lokalna zaloga, ktora robi koncerty metal/hc/alternatywne od dluzszego czasu). Zespoly, ktore mialem okazje ogladac zagraly eleganckie gigi, a publika byla zajarana w 100%, wiec nie moglo byc zle. Fajnie bylo ogladac prawie wszystkich czlonkow Terror, przejmujacych goscinnie mikrofony w kawalkach reszty kapel , a zwlaszcza pomagajacych BFP, ktorych to wokalista Rob musial przerwac trase z powodu operacji oka - miejmy nadzieje, ze szybko powroci. Nie przegapcie goscinnego wystepu Adama Malika PRD pod koniec "Keep Your Mouth Shut" i prawdopodobnie najmlodszego typa na sali, przejmujacego mikrof podczas setu Trapped Under Ice (i ochrony, ktora oczywiscie dostrzegla w tym nie lada zagrozenie i niepotrzebnie przeszkadzala). Oszalejecie.

It's only April but seems like gig of the year has already hapenned

I was looking forward to upcoming Pain Runs Deep show in my town like a maniac. The gigs they delivered last year were the best ones I have seen in years. The performence, the vibe, the crowd reaction - everything I miss when I go to check hardcore bands these days . This time it was only better. From the first note kids went ape shit and Pain Runs Deep seemed to be even more intense than last year. Tons of stage dives, sing alongs, awesome stage presence. On a top of the bill, they played 2 Healing's cover songs which totally took the cake for me. (Healing was the best Euro sxe band ever. Period.)
The gig itself was a great event as Pain Runs Deep shared the stage with 4 more foreign bands with Bane headlining (the footage soon) and the venue was packed with like 500 kids. Great atmosphere, all the vegan food sold out before the show even started, many long unseen friends, hordes of young kids doing what they should, some people flew it over here from London and Nuernberg. Was siked to see my best friend's younger brother stage diving all over the place, way to go! A time to remember, as they say. Seriously, nights like that are all I need to get from Hardcore and that's enough for me this year.

By the way, Ponton hides shitloads of unedited footage of quality HC gigs somewhere under his bed and hopefully they will make their way to the outside world eventually.





Dawno nie czekałem na nic tak jak na nadchodzacy gig Pain Runs Deep w Warszawie. To, co ci typowie zaprezentowali w tamtym roku to byly jedne z lepszych koncertow jakie widzialem od lat. Wykonanie, klimat, reakcja publiki - wszystko to czego brakuje mi, gdy ogladam dzisiejsze zespoly HC. Tym razem bylo tylko lepiej. Od pierwszego dzwieku towarzystwo zglupialo, a Pain Runs Deep zagrali nawet mocniej niz w zeszlym roku. Mnosto stage dive'ow, sing alongi, prezencja na scenie znakomita. Jakby tego bylo malo, zagrali 2 covery Healing, czym wygrali dla mnie ten wieczor (Healing to byl najlepszy europejski zespol kiedykolwiek. Dziekuje.)
Sam gig byl nie lada wydarzeniem, jako, ze oprocz Pain Runs Deep gralo jeszcze 4 zagraniczne zespoly z Bane na czele (material wkrotce) i w klubie bylo z 500 osob. Swietna atmosfera, Vegavani zostalo pozbawione jedzenia zanim koncert sie wlasciwie zaczal, duzo dawno niewidzianych znajomych, masa mlodych dzieciakow robiacych to, co trzeba, kilku typow, ktorzy zlecieli sie na ten gig z Londynu i Norynbergii. Moglem tez zajrac sie widokiem mlodszego brata mojego kompla, skaczacego caly koncert ze sceny - tak trzymaj, chlopie. Nie zapomina sie takich gigow. To, co dostalem tamtej nocy, to wszystko czego potrzebuje od Hardcore'a i na ten rok mi spokojnie wystarczy.

Powyzej material z wiekszoscia koncertu Pain Runs Deep. Tym razem mialem przyjemnosc wspolpracowac z kolega Pontonem (Snafu Films) i nakrecilismy to na dwie kamery - mam nadzieje, ze ta wspolpraca sie wkrotce powtorzy. Przy okazji, Ponton trzyma gdzies dobrze schowane kilogramy tasm z dobrych gigow i wszyscy maja nadzieje, ze to kiedys bedzie mozna zobaczyc.

The Truth is never subject to time: John Joseph interview and Cro-Mags jam live in Berlin

If you haven't read John Joseph's book "The Evolution of A Cro-Magnon", then you're missing some amazingly entertaining, interesting and inspiring piece of read. An autobiography packed with crazy stories, based in the old New York City, that covers the obscure genesis of its HC/punk scene, reflections on spiritual journey, drug addicts and dealers adventures, the history of the Cro-Mags and what not. I do love the book and it's amazing to see how people who wrote pretty groundbreaking lyrics for their times seem to have a lot of creativity and still carry a good message today.

Stuff I heard in the interview plus the show they delivered last week was pretty much what I wanted to get from Hardcore to charge my batteries for a while. Seriously, there are not too many current bands that could pull it off like they did. The line up was: John Joseph - vocals, Mackie Jayson - drums, AJ Novello - guitar and Craig Setari - bass.

I've just read they might be back in Europe sooner than we think, so don't think twice if you have a chance to see them. It's worthy of any hour of your long travel.

Autobiografia ze starym Nowym Jorkiem w tle, zawiera mase historii dotyczacych mrocznych poczatkow sceny HC/punk tego miasta, przygod narkomanow i dealerow, refleksji nad duchowym rozwojem, historie Cro-Mags i wiele wiecej. Ksiazka rzadzi i fajnie widac, ze ktos kto napisal jedne z najbardziej przelomowych tekstow dla swoich czasow ma dzisiaj ciagle tak duzo dobrego do przekazania.

To, co uslyszalem w tym wywiadzie i koncert, ktory zobaczylem w Berlinie ponad tydzien temu, to mniej wiecej to, czego potrzebuje od Hardcore'a, aby miec naladowane baterie na jakis czas. Naprawde, trudno mi znalezc wiele obecnie grajacych kapel, ktore dalyby rade tak jak zrobili to oni. Sklad tego wieczora: John Joseph - spiew, Mackie Jayson - gary, AJ Novello - gitka i Craig Setari - bass.

Dochodza sluchy o tym, ze maja sie pojawic w Europie juz wkrotce, wiec jezeli bedziecie mieli okazje ich zobaczyc, nie zastanawiajcie sie nad tym zbyt dlugo. To warte kazdej godziny spedzonej w dlugiej podrozy.

Word up.
Slip has been around for a year or so, starting as kind of a project between bunch of (kind of) Warsaw locals (who used to play/play in Last Item, The Black Tapes, Identity, Czarzły, The Beat Generation, 33 Rotations, Come Undone to name a few) and they managed to record a demo and play few decent shows last year. Kids really seem to dig them and would be sweet to see some decent moshing that this band deserve.
I combined footage of their three shows - one from Gdynia, organized by Pacior, highly acclaimed as the Best Show of 2008 and I totally agree, then two from Warsaw done by This Is Warsaw pals - into one song.
Besides, two of the band members are notorious graphic artist and if you haven't seen any of their work yet, you'd better go check them out.

Slip istnieje około roku, a powstał jako projekt pomiędzy kilkoma typami z (mniej lub brdziej) z Warszawy (udzielali się oni w takich hordach jak: Last Item, The Black Tapes, Identity, Czarzły, The Beat Generation, 33 Rotations, Come Undone, by wymienic kilka z nich) i udało im się do tej pory nagrac demo i zagrac kilka porzadnych gigow. Towarzystwu wyraźnie się podobają, acz fajnie byłoby zobaczyc na ich koncertach mosh, na jaki zasługują.
Zmontowałem materiał z trzech gigów - jednego z Gdyni, który robił Pacior i okrzykniętego Gigiem Roku 2008, z czym się całkowicie zgadzam, i dwóch z Warszawy, organizowanych przez typów z This Is Warsaw.
Warto też dodac, że w zespole udziela się dwóch zwariowanych artystów i jeżeli do tej pory nie widzieliście ich dzieł, to zróbcie to teraz.

Persistence Tour part 3 - Born From Pain

Here comes the final episode of the Persistence Tour footage.

I have known Born From Pain for ages, knowing that they're hardworking band but they have never really impressed me and I wasn't into them, at all. Last year Rob, the original bass player of Born From Pain traded 4 string guitar for the mike and when I checked their new song their posted, I was pretty much hooked. Their new album called "Survival" did really surprised me in a very positive way - seems like they started totally new chapter as a band, with much more energy, groove and there’s no secret that it was new vocalist that did play a big part in this incarnation. It's not that easy to manage writing songs in the vein they play and still keep them fresh sounding. Furthermore, the lyrical content of the album, and the message they stressed so much, make them one of the few bands that are actually vocal about things that take some guts to talk about. I knew that I had to interview them by the earliest convenience, so did I when we hit the Persistence Tour show in Dresden. That's great to see people being critical, open minded and not being afraid to speak out. Here goes the interview, no further introduction needed I guess, Rob had shitloads of interesting stuff to say which is still the top of the iceberg, so it's up to you if you pick it up where he left off.

Znałem Born From Pain od dawien dawna i wdziałem jak ciężko pracują jako zespół, ale nigdy nie robili na mnie jakiegoś wrażenia i nigdy mnie nie ruszali. W zeszłym roku Rob, który dotąd obsługiwał bass przeskoczył na wokal i gdy usłyszałem utwór z nadchodzącej wtedy płyty, naprawdę mi się przypasował. Cała płyta zatytułowana "Survival" miło mnie zaskoczyła w jak najbardziej pozytywnym tego słowa znaczeniu - wygląda na to, że zespół zaczął zupełnie nowy rozdział w swojej historii, z większą energią, grając dużo bardziej przebojowo i nie jest specjalną tajemnicą, że to właśnie nowy wokalista przyczynił się do tego, że to nowe wcielenie właśnie tak odbieram. To nie jest takie łatwe, aby robic kawałki w stylu w jakim porusza się Born From Pain tak, aby ciągle brzmiały świeżo. Dodatkowo, zawartość tekstowa płyty i ich przekaz, którego wagę podkreślają na każdym kroku czyni z nich jeden z niewielu zespołów, które wypowiadają się na tematy, wymagające odrobiny jaj, by je poruszać. Wiedziałem, że muszę z nimi zrobić wywiad, jak tylko nadarzy się okazja i stało się to, gdy wybraliśmy się na Persistence Tour do Dresden.
Fajnie jest widzieć ludzi, gdy są krytyczni, otwarci i nie boją się przy tym na ten temat wypowiadać. Zapraszam na wywiad, nie potrzeba chyba dalszego wprowadzenia - Rob ma masę ciekawych rzeczy do powiedzenia, które ciągle są tylko wierzchołkiem góry lodowej i tylko od Was zależy, czy gdy Rob skończy gadać, Wy coś z tym zrobicie.
