Not much left to say.
Besides, this is what I edited using two shot footage, again that's what came out of collabo with my man Ponton of Snafu Films.

It takes only two dudes to make Wilczy Szaniec, a punk rock duo straight outta Cracow, South of Poland. Their demo, that was put out like a year ago left in awe tons of folks, me among them. The band sounds really fresh, highly inspired by Polish punk rock heritage. Mos def it's not just another copy of copy's copy. The lyrics, the logo, the very name - all good in my book. I was wondering how it is gonna work out gig wise with just two of them and luckily I had a chance to check them out last month. Moreover, I got their new demo which sounds even more raw and sleazy. Both their sound and stage presence were intense and hit me hard. I felt like watching a hc band to a degree, especially watching DJ Octopus walking behind his table like a maniac, sweating more than many of the hc kids while playing their shows. The footage you can see below was shot over a year and a half ago. Circumstances made me put it on a shelf for a while. Cursed called it a day soon after that, not really planning to do so and it just felt weird to put it online right after that, so I decided to let the time work on it a bit. Now, since everybody's been missing the band already for a while, especially after killer "III" album, I think it's the right time to reveal what I have. Well, done with nothing I could call equipment but the band's delivery I consider amazing.

www.yourfuckingfuneral.blogspot.com

Rob Fish of 108

I find it nice to see when people and bands evolve in the way that seems pretty natural and genuine for them. Not denying their past, not trying to live off their legends, not using their creds and trying to live up to any labels people put on them, just to be in some kind of a comfort zone, within the group that get used to their image/label. I had a chance to see 108 back in 90s and was impressed and had a pleasure to see them when they got back and made it to Europe again at the Fluff Fest in 2007 and was totally blew away by their strong and emotional performance. They fucked up like three guitar heads during their set, as I remember, was wild as hell. So I sat together with Rob last April and asked him a couple of questions about what 108 is all about these days, his everyday life, what made him the person he is and some other stuff.

www.weare108.com
www.myspace.com/108music
www.deathwishinc.com
www.myspace.com/deathwishinc

Meat Is For Pussies - strike two

As the release date of John Joseph's new book "Meat Is For Pussies" is getting closer, following up the video on his urban training we posted last month, here goes another one where he shows you where he has his vegan eats and talks on going green for real. What you can see is a couple of songs from Terror, Born From Pain and Trapped Under Ice I took out of their sets they had here in Warsaw at last Show No Mercy (local booking crew, they have been doing metal/hc/alternative show for a while) gig. Good show and all the bands I had a chance to see deliver quality shows while kids were 100% into them, so it couldn't really go wrong. It's good to see almost all of the Terror members jumping on the guest vocals during other band's sets and helping out BFP big time - their vocalist Rob had to drop off the tour due to his eye surgery and hopefully will be back soon. And do not miss the Adam Malik of Pain Runs Deep sweat cameo at the end of "Keep Your Mouth Shut" and probably the youngest Warsaw kid grabbing the mike during Trapped Under Ice set (and bouncers being way too uptight to let him finish as he should). You gotta love it.

Fajnie bylo ogladac prawie wszystkich czlonkow Terror, przejmujacych goscinnie mikrofony w kawalkach reszty kapel , a zwlaszcza pomagajacych BFP, ktorych to wokalista Rob musial przerwac trase z powodu operacji oka - miejmy nadzieje, ze szybko powroci. Nie przegapcie goscinnego wystepu Adama Malika PRD pod koniec "Keep Your Mouth Shut" i prawdopodobnie najmlodszego typa na sali, przejmujacego mikrof podczas setu Trapped Under Ice (i ochrony, ktora oczywiscie dostrzegla w tym nie lada zagrozenie i niepotrzebnie przeszkadzala). The gigs they delivered last year were the best ones I have seen in years. The performence, the vibe, the crowd reaction - everything I miss when I go to check hardcore bands these days . This time it was only better. From the first note kids went ape shit and Pain Runs Deep seemed to be even more intense than last year. Tons of stage dives, sing alongs, awesome stage presence. On a top of the bill, they played 2 Healing's cover songs which totally took the cake for me. (Healing was the best Euro sxe band ever. Period.)
The gig itself was a great event as Pain Runs Deep shared the stage with 4 more foreign bands with Bane headlining (the footage soon) and the venue was packed with like 500 kids. Great atmosphere, all the vegan food sold out before the show even started, many long unseen friends, hordes of young kids doing what they should, some people flew it over here from London and Nuernberg. Was siked to see my best friend's younger brother stage diving all over the place, way to go! A time to remember, as they say. Seriously, nights like that are all I need to get from Hardcore and that's enough for me this year.
Long live This Is Warsaw!

So go check most of the Pain Runs Deep their gig. This time I had a pleasure to team up with my man Ponton of Snafu Films and shot with two cameras and hopefully this colabo will happen again soon. By the way, Ponton hides shitloads of unedited footage of quality HC gigs somewhere under his bed and hopefully they will make their way to the outside world eventually.

Wykonanie, klimat, reakcja publiki - wszystko to czego brakuje mi, gdy ogladam dzisiejsze zespoly HC. Tym razem bylo tylko lepiej. Od pierwszego dzwieku towarzystwo zglupialo, a Pain Runs Deep zagrali nawet mocniej niz w zeszlym roku. Mnosto stage dive'ow, sing alongi, prezencja na scenie znakomita. Jakby tego bylo malo, zagrali 2 covery Healing, czym wygrali dla mnie ten wieczor (Healing to byl najlepszy europejski zespol kiedykolwiek. Dziekuje.)
Brawa dla This Is Warsaw!

Powyzej material z wiekszoscia koncertu Pain Runs Deep. An autobiography packed with crazy stories, based in the old New York City, that covers the obscure genesis of its HC/punk scene, reflections on spiritual journey, drug addicts and dealers adventures, the history of the Cro-Mags and what not. I do love the book and it's amazing to see how people who wrote pretty groundbreaking lyrics for their times seem to have a lot of creativity and still carry a good message today.

Stuff I heard in the interview plus the show they delivered last week was pretty much what I wanted to get from Hardcore to charge my batteries for a while. Seriously, there are not too many current bands that could pull it off like they did. The line up was: John Joseph - vocals, Mackie Jayson - drums, AJ Novello - guitar and Craig Setari - bass.

I've just read they might be back in Europe sooner than we think, so don't think twice if you have a chance to see them. It's worthy of any hour of your long travel.

Jezeli nie czytaliscie jeszcze ksiazki Johna Josepha pt. "The Evolution of A Cro-Magnon", to straciliscie kawal dobrej zabawy, interesujacej historii i inspiracji. Kids really seem to dig them and would be sweet to see some decent moshing that this band deserve.
I combined footage of their three shows - one from Gdynia, organized by Pacior, highly acclaimed as the Best Show of 2008 and I totally agree, then two from Warsaw done by This Is Warsaw pals - into one song.
Besides, two of the band members are notorious graphic artist and if you haven't seen any of their work yet, you'd better go check them out.

Slip "Monkey See Monkey Do" from Buggz on Vimeo.

Serwus.
Slip istnieje około roku, a powstał jako projekt pomiędzy kilkoma typami z (mniej lub brdziej) z Warszawy (udzielali się oni w takich hordach jak: Last Item, The Black Tapes, Identity, Czarzły, The Beat Generation, 33 Rotations, Come Undone, by wymienic kilka z nich) i udało im się do tej pory nagrac demo i zagrac kilka porzadnych gigow. Last year Rob, the original bass player of Born From Pain traded 4 string guitar for the mike and when I checked their new song their posted, I was pretty much hooked. Their new album called "Survival" did really surprised me in a very positive way - seems like they started totally new chapter as a band, with much more energy, groove and there’s no secret that it was new vocalist that did play a big part in this incarnation. It's not that easy to manage writing songs in the vein they play and still keep them fresh sounding. Furthermore, the lyrical content of the album, and the message they stressed so much, make them one of the few bands that are actually vocal about things that take some guts to talk about. I knew that I had to interview them by the earliest convenience, so did I when we hit the Persistence Tour show in Dresden. That's great to see people being critical, open minded and not being afraid to speak out. Here goes the interview, no further introduction needed I guess, Rob had shitloads of interesting stuff to say which is still the top of the iceberg, so it's up to you if you pick it up where he left off.

Born From Pain live at Persistence Tour part 1 from Buggz on Vimeo.

Born From Pain live at Persistence Tour part 2 from Buggz on Vimeo.

Born From Pain live at Persistence Tour part 3 from Buggz on Vimeo.

I oto ostatni odcinek materiału z Persistence Tour.

www.myspace.com/bornfrompain
www.bornfrompain.com

Persistence Tour part 2 - H2O

If I had to pick any highlights of 2008, I would definitely start with H2O’s „Nothing To Prove” album. They day I bought it and, for the lack of any decent stereo, listened on my friend’s laptop and earphones I was like “that’s what I need these days”. I remember listening to it like 5 times in a row or so and about third route I had already been able to sing along to “Still Here” and “Nothing to Prove”. It was my summer soundtrack and I still listen to this record on regular basis. The vibe of the album really reminds me the times when I listened to 7 Seconds or Gorilla Biscuits for the very first time. So PMA it hurts and great great lyrics.

So go watch the vidz and check what Toby said on new record’s lyrics, his son and some other stuff about H2O you might not know.
H2O go!

H20 - live at Persistence Tour part 1 from Buggz on Vimeo.

H20 - live at Persistence Tour part 2 from Buggz on Vimeo.

Cała atmosfera płyty przypomina mi czasy, gdy pierwszy raz słuchałem 7 Seconds i Gorilla Biscuits. PMA do bólu i świetne teksty.

H2O go!

www.myspace.com/h2ofamily
www.h2ogo.com

Persistence Tour part 1 - Terror

A couple of weeks ago I had a chance to go for a road trip with Raf The Artist and the others. We dropped by Berlin’s Yellow Sunshine to have some vegan eats there and then headed Dresden for its annually Persistence Tour’s show. Big ass show, I have to say. The line up was really nice, as they had Discipline, Born From Pain, Terror, H20, Sick of It All and Heaven Shall Burn, so pretty diverse and quality stuff.
I came back home with hell of a footage, as did some good interviews with people who had something to say and shot their killer shows. So get back here every once in a while, as they will pop up one after another.

So, let’s start with Terror. Ok, I have to admit – back then when they started, I was kind of skeptic. Maybe to piss my boys off, as they were totally psyched with this band from day one. Anyway, since their very first Euro tour I have seen them few times and every time they pulled it off live crazy. One of the best live acts ever. I always liked what Scott Vogel had to say and I remember he was pretty vocal about HC and what not while being interviewed in 90’s fanzines (like the one in “I Stand Alone”). It just felt good to read this type of stuff. And now you can even watch it.

Terror live at Persistence Tour part 1 from Buggz on Vimeo.

Terror live at Persistence Tour part 2 from Buggz on Vimeo.

Dobry skład – Discipline, Born From Pain, Terror, H20, Sick of It All i Heaven Shall Burn.
Powróciłem z dość dobrym materiałem, zrobiwszy kilka fajnych wywiadów z typami, którzy mieli coś do powiedzenia i kręcąc ich dobre występy.

A teraz możecie to oglądać.

www.myspace.com/terror
www.terrorhc.com
www.mad-tourbooking.de
www.myspace.com/madtourbooking

Carl of First Blood

Awkee, it has been a while since I posted anything but from today on expect weekly updates. I am busy with shitolad of nice footage that has already become a bit dusty on my shelf but slowly I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Anyway, first things first. First Blood. I interviewed Carl who's on vocals duty in this San Francisco based band. I'd had put it together long time ago but had been searching for some decent live footage to combine it all together with the interview. No luck at all. I really liked what Carl said so didn't want to make it wait any longer. So listen up!

Interview with Carl of First Blood from Patryk Bugajski on Vimeo.

"Witam, witam!

Na początek First Bloood. When Pain Runs Deep were just about to finish their show he got on stage, invited his girlfriend Ada picked up the mike and in front of his friends, Ratel crewmates and numerous HC kids, popped up the question. Then Pain Runs Deep played Judge's "Fed Up" and everybody moshed, sang along and stage dove like crazy for the just engaged couple. Things like that don't happen on every show, huh?
I would be a wuss if I kept shooting instead of shouting, so I left the camera on the amp and joined the crowd, as I should. So don't complaint about the second part of this footage. Gdy Pain Runs Deep konczylo juz swoj wystep, ten typ wkroczyl na scene, zaprosil na nia Ade, przejal mikrofon i w obecnosci, swoich przyjaciol, braci z Ratel Crew i licznie zgromadzonych HC kids - oswiadczyl sie. Pain Runs Deep zagralo "Fed Up" Judge i wszyscy dostali totalnej korby. I have been there many times and shows were alwasy amazing. Really well done, kids always mosh, good vibe and shit. As long as I remember he wanted to put on a Bane show badly but it has never worked out for some reason. When he finally had a chance to book this gig, it couldn’t turned out better than it did. A summer day, filled with tons of cool kids, great food (props goes out to Avocado catering) and good bands. This show was as hardcore as it gets.

I never had a chance to see Bane before. They played in Katowice (South of Poland) 8 years ago but wasn’t into them, at all. What a bummer. I discovered them really late, starting with the last record and I totally fell in love with the lyrics and music. Both so unique. It was so great to see all those kids going apeshit that night.

Go and watch some footage from Gdynia and Aaron speaking about lyrics, hardcore and what he would miss when this band had ever ended. Hopefully won’t happen too soon.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Pacior zaczal robic gigi w gdynskim Uchu jakies 5 lat temu i dosc szybko zdobyly sobie opinie jako jedne z lepszych w kraju.

Zobaczcie sobie kilka kawalkow z koncertu i to, co mowi Aaron o tekstach, hardkorze i czego bedzie mu brakowalo, gdy ten zespol sie rozpadnie.

www.myspace.com/banecentral

Pain Runs Deep... gigging and crushing

Last weekend was such a blast. Where should I start? Ok, Aneta and I went to Krakow (South of Poland) and Gdynia (North of Poland) which are not the closest cities around but there was reason for doing that. We went there for some shows that turned out to be the best ones this year. And one of the best gigs ever. Everything was perfect – kids, bands, promoters, vibe, crowd response, long unseen friends, new folks, food, hang outs, stage dives, sing alongs, goose bumps...
Frankly speaking, I go to shows and I hardly feel like I am at the hardcore gig. I watch the bands, I enjoy the music, I hang out and that’s it. I go home and a couple of days later, I can’t remember a thing. This time it was totally different story. The very next day at the office, I couldn’t think about anything else but how good my life was and how much I loved hardcore.
All of the bands I saw were great and delivered excellent performances and it takes a couple of entries in this very blog’s to give every one a credit that they deserve.

So let’s start with Pain Runs Deep.

The two shows of theirs I had a chance to see were dope. You could see how enthusiastic these guys were and that they poured their hearts and souls into their shows. They used to be a good band 10 years ago but nowadays they’re a fucking killer. Everything I love about the hardcore – they have. Great passion, integrity, they’re not afraid to be vocal and they keep it totally positive.
In Kraków the room was just perfect. The venue name was Odnova, there were 108 (sic!) tickets sold and it was already packed and hot as hell. Two days later was Gdynia at Ucho, the venue that I have already known for ages, bigger but still great room with excellent stage that seemed like designed to dive from.
This band grows stronger and I can’t wait to have them back.

Get back for more footage and stories soon.

Life is good!

Part 1

Part 2

Ostatni weekend dosc zarzadzil.
Wracam do chaty i pare dni pozniej o wszystkim zapominam.

Oba gigi, ktore grali i widzialem - rzad.

Tymczasem!

www.myspace.com/painrunsdeep

Pain still Runs Deep

When I figure it out about Pain Runs Deep reuniting for a bunch of shows at frist hand, I had kind of mixed feeling, frankly speaking. You know, reunions and shit. But since I've known the dudes for ages and some of them were kind of out of loop for a while, I was kind of looking forward to it.
I had a chance to see only one of the April's shows but I was totally hooked. What I really loved was the thing that they haven't talked about how it was "back in the daze" or "those kids today" and stuff like that. The thing is that I didn't feel like this is the reunion, it was much more like they haven't played a show for a while and finally they did. No old man talks at all.
I asked the people who showed up at the show how they felt about the band and the PRD dudes themselves about their own reasons and hopes to do what they do. What you can see below is what I combined all together. The show took place in Warsaw and again was promoted by This Is Warsaw folks who actually are booking the coolest shows around.

I saw PRD again last weekend, so you'd better come back to this blog and check the new videos in a couple of days.

www.myspace.com/painrunsdeep
http://www.thisiswarsaw.blogspot.com/

Koncert mial miejsce w Warszawie i zorganizowany zostal ponownie przez pakiete This Is Warsaw, ktorzy robia obecnie najfajniesze gigi w miescie.

Widzialem PRD ponownie w ostatni weekend, wiec radze tutaj zagladac, bo za kilka dni pojawia sie nowe filmy.

www.myspace.com/painrunsdeep
http://www.thisiswarsaw.blogspot.com/

Blacklisted

Awkee, I wasn't really convinced by Blacklisted first time I saw them live which was two years ago, while they were touring with Terror and Donnybrook. And haven't gotten into them ever since. But when I heard their latest 7" called "Peace on Earth, war on stage" I changed my opinion totally. Great songs, amazing vocals, good lyrics and tons of pissed off energy mixed with bunch of nice melodies that they carry really made me look forward to their show in Warsaw. Something outstanding there. They did really good and now I can say that they're one of THE bands in Hardcore these days. They seem to be as much in Europe as in US so probably it won't be too long to check them live again. Really curious about their upcoming album.

"Peace on Earth, war on stage". Ta plyta mnie zdecydowanie kupila. Swietne kawalki, eleganckie wokale, dobre teksty i solidny napierdol z niezlymi melodiami gdzies pomiedzy. Nareszcie hardcore zagrany nieco inaczej. I was really looking forward to this show as it had Soulcontrol on the bill and since my man Rafal aka Fakir let everybody know to check this band out, I kept my eye on what they’ve been up to. I was totally blown away by their demo that was actually amazing piece of grooving and emotional, yet heavy HC that reminded me 90s type of bands so much it hurt. Later on, I found out that their drummer is the guy who used to play in Temperance (for all you folks who don’t know what the band I’m taking about – one of the 90s finest outfits that could play really melodic music and not being whimpy, do you know any bands like them nowadays? I guess no), I was double psyched to see them. And they did not disappoint me, at all. Really, really energetic show and the band left definitely a good impression on me. I was lucky enough to shoot the interview that my boy Voy Voy conducted with Jim and Matt and threw them together with some stage motions. You can find the entire interview on Voy Voy’s very own blog: www.itsforlife.blogspot.com, so go there and read it up (don’t miss the amazing Bane interview he put on his website some weeks ago).
And I did enjoy the entire show (there was some brawl going outside but it didn’t affect the vibe of the show at all), which was well organized, the food was amazing, the kids have good time. More shows of this type, please!
I will post Blacklisted’s footage as soon as I’m done with editing that but meantime go and check some really good pictures: http://laszlopaprika.ownlog.com/
PART 1

PART 2

The Black Tapes hailing from Warsaw was probably the fastest growing band last year overhere. Since their very first show it hasn't been a secret they are about to turn into something really popular. So they did. I had a chance to see a dozen of their shows and pay a visit in the studio while they were recording their debut MCD (still available at Warsaw City Rockers Records) - so check for yourselves some of the footage. They're heading the studio again in 2008 to record their sophomore album and this time it is going to be a full lenght, so I am pretty much sure they will appear in this blog again.

www.myspace.com/theblacktapes
www.myspace.com/warsawcityrecords

Do dnia, w którym zobaczyłem ten koncert.

I wouldn’t have said that I was a big Dälek (Newark/NJ) fan – ok, I heard some of their records and read a really good interview with Will in the last issue of “GLW DRK” but that’s it, a friend of mine dragged me there and since then – well, I’ve been listening to Dälek throughout November’s dark and gloomy mornings and afternoons while being squashed in the subway on my way to/from work. A nice pal of mine told me he had read somewhere that those dudes were heavily inspired by Twin Peaks while working on their last album. Everything happens with a reason, doesn’t it? Godzina ciężkiego i syfiastego metalowego rocka.

When I found it out that High On Fire would play in Poland, I know that either I will take a chance and see them playing or I will suck big time. I heard the stories about how loud and heavy they are. And believe me, all I heard was true. Thanks God, I had my earplugs otherwise I would have my skull cracked open. They delivered an hour of totally heavy and devastating metallic rock. It is never too easy to record a greater album than an already great one. While “Blessed Black Wings” was a fuckin masterpiece, the new one “Death Is This Communion” is as good as the previous one. The tracklist of the Wrocław’s show was halfway packed with the songs from this hottest fucker.

Speaking of the best/worst shows of the passing year I cannot help but think of Municipal Waste's gig here in Warsaw.

Płyta Calm The Fire wyjdzie w Burning Chords Records na początku 2008 r. www.myspace.com/calmthefire

I can hardly remember when was the last time I had witnessed such a great feedback from the local crowd to the local band until I saw it in Gdynia on 16 December 2007. It was Gdynia's own Calm The Fire that played in Ucho (the venue that carries tons of HC/punk show up North) during the annual Youth Fest and on the very same day the guy behind this even who in the same time happened to be the mentioned band's vocalist had his birthday. I cannot imagine a better gift than the one that he and his bandmates were given to. It only reminded me how cool the Polish shows could be and what I usually miss and crave for. I'd probably could write a column how cool it, go and see on your own above instead.

Calm The Fire debut album will be available in early 2008 on Burning Chords Records, so check them out: www.myspace.com/calmthefire

...this time punk rock is going to be televised...

Aloha,

Aloha,

I love fanzines, I loved them first time I found out about them and since then I've been having a deep affection for them. You cannot have a Hardcore scene without fanzine. Forget about it. So here's my fanzine. It's not cut & paste style, you cannot read it while you're having your nice time in the toilet. But the idea behind remains the same and the vibe of typing those letter feels totally the same as I would type them on the old typing machine when I was doing my very first fanzine. There's so much going on locally or when I have a chance to travel, so why don't I share what I can videotape with ya'll? Expect the unexpected.
